Just Asking – Thomas Sowell

Thomas Sowell, Just Asking

In a recent panel discussion on poverty at Georgetown University, President Barack Obama gave another demonstration of his mastery of rhetoric — and disregard of reality.

One of the ways of fighting poverty, he proposed, was to “ask from society’s lottery winners” that they make a “modest investment” in government programs to help the poor.

Despite pious rhetoric on the left about “asking” the more fortunate for more money, the government does not “ask” anything. It seizes what it wants by force. If you don’t pay up, it can take not only your paycheck, it can seize your bank account, put a lien on your home and/or put you in federal prison.

And please don’t call the government’s pouring trillions of tax dollars down a bottomless pit “investment.” Remember the soaring words from Barack Obama, in his early days in the White House, about “investing in the industries of the future”? After Solyndra and other companies in which he “invested” the taxpayers’ money went bankrupt, we haven’t heard those soaring words so much.

Obama vs Krazy Kim

CNN Breaking News:

U.S. investigators have evidence that hackers stole the computer credentials of a system administrator to access Sony’s computer system, U.S. officials tell CNN’s Evan Perez.

The United States is preparing to publicly blame North Korea for the Sony Pictures hack, and one official said, “We do think it’s appropriate to respond.” The White House and government agencies are holding a series of high-level meetings to discuss the range of options, a senior official in the Obama administration said.

Maybe President Obama will “draw a red line!”

Confused in Chief – Immigration (from the news)

Our President seems to be confused on a number of issues:

CNN Breaking News 20.Nov.2014 4:10 PM
President Barack Obama will order immigration officers to deport “felons, not families” as he wields executive power to shield five million illegal immigrants in the most sweeping reform of the immigration system in decades.

In a prime time address to the nation Thursday, Obama will lay out changes he is making to immigration laws without the consent of Congress.

A key element of his plan is to instruct immigration authorities to prioritize expulsion action against gang members, felons and suspected terrorists rather than law abiding undocumented parents of US citizens and residents and others, senior administration officials said.

  1. “Obama will lay out changes he is making to immigration laws without the consent of Congress”It seems that our Commander-in-Chief is not aware that he is NOT our king. Being as he was a Professor of Constitutional Law, you’d think he would be able to fake his way around this issue.
  2. “A key element of his plan is to instruct immigration authorities to prioritize expulsion action against gang members, felons and suspected terrorists rather than law abiding….”Now, hold on a moment: “undocumented” is a politically kind way of saying “residing in the United States in violation of the law.” What the President is saying is, “I want to get rid of those criminals that will come back to haunt me, but not the ones that I can get to vote (illegally) for me and my party.”

Let’s try to pretend to honesty, Mr. President. At least you can try to pretend, can’t you?

  3. “felons, not families”There is a gaping hole here concerning felons with families. Since we have already established that “undocumented emigrants” are felons…. well…. do you see the problem?

Obama White House Takes Tough Stance Against Russia

CNN Breaking News:

The United States and six other Western nations voted to effectively kick Russia out of the G8 in response to Russia’s annexation of Crimea, a White House statement said.

Whew! I was beginning to think that President Obama had a weak foreign policy….

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov downplayed the significance of the move.

“G8 is an informal organization that does not give out any membership cards and, by its definition, cannot remove anyone,” he said at a news conference. “All the economic and financial questions are decided in G20.”

…. Because they do!

Can Obama Write His Own Laws? – Krauthammer

Such gross executive usurpation disdains the Constitution. It mocks the separation of powers. And most consequentially, it introduces a fatal instability into law itself. If the law is not what is plainly written, but is whatever the president and his agents decide, what’s left of the law?

Charles Krauthammer, amazingly, has a second bout with reality.

The things President Obama is doing and being allowed to do by the American public are truly terrifying, and completely unprecedented. Where it not for the Left’s blind hatred for the Constitution and the rule of law, they would be in the streets throwing rocks. Were this a Republican president, there would be daily protests…. That does not even have rhetorical meaning – no Republican president would ever consider the actions of the Communist tyrant currently residing in the office….

Schneier on Security: Government Secrets and the Need for Whistle-blowers.

Whistle-blowing is the moral response to immoral activity by those in power. What’s important here are government programs and methods, not data about individuals. I understand I am asking for people to engage in illegal and dangerous behavior. Do it carefully and do it safely, but — and I am talking directly to you, person working on one of these secret and probably illegal programs — do it.

The Really Distressing Part of the NSA Phone Surveillance… Once Again

More breaking news about the NSA phone surveillance, admissions by the White House, admissions by the President, admissions that congress knew…. blah blah blah.

The really distressing part (again) is that 58% of the American population is:

  1. Too stupid to care
  2. Stupid enough to trust the President (ANY president!) with this information
  3. Stupid enough  trust Congress with this information
  4. Stupid enough to accept that this is “anti terrorism”
  5. Stupid enough to think that it ends at watching the durations and numbers of the calls.

Really? Really?

We have lost the “war on terror.” Our leaders are now happily terrorizing us.

Susan Rice – We Can Make This Worse

The Obama administration never ceases to make me an optimist — No matter how bad things are, I am confident that they can make things worse.

CNN Breaking News, 5:34 AM 5.Jun.2013

Susan Rice, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, will replace Tom Donilon as President Barack Obama’s national security adviser, a senior administration official says.

Rice had been considered a leading contender for secretary of state, but Republican-led opposition against her potential nomination spurred the ambassador to withdraw her name from consideration in December.

Critics faulted Rice for saying that the attack on the U.S. compound in Benghazi, Libya, originated from a spontaneous protest over an anti-Islam video. The Obama administration later said the violence was a planned terrorist attack. The raid left four Americans killed, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens.

She’s obviously incompetent to be Secretary of State, so let’s make her National Security Adviser instead!

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”

– Martin Luther King, Jr.

It is very sad that our first African-American President will be judge in history as the most inept, corrupt, wasteful, subversive, destructive and divisive President ever. A man twice elected because of the color of his skin rather than the content of his character.

I get lots of these image memes, but I rarely even pass them on in email. This one… this one stands out.

Dear Graduates: Tyranny Is Right Around the Corner: The case of Fox’s James Rosen.

Andrew Napolitano | May 23, 2013

A few weeks ago, President Obama advised graduates at Ohio State University that they need not listen to voices warning about tyranny around the corner, because we have self-government in America. He argued that self-government is in and of itself an adequate safeguard against tyranny, because voters can be counted upon to elect democrats (lowercase “d”) not tyrants. His argument defies logic and 20th-century history. It reveals an ignorance of the tyranny of the majority, which believes it can write any law, regulate any behavior, alter any procedure and tax any event so long as it can get away with it.

FoxHistory has shown that the majority will not permit any higher law or logic or value — like fidelity to the natural law, a belief in the primacy of the individual or an acceptance of the supremacy of the Constitution — that prevents it from doing as it wishes. Continue reading

I guess I’m going to have to “get off the pot” and update my notebook.

How Stupid is the American Public? CNN says 58%

CNN Breaking News, 20.May.2013

A new CNN/ORC International poll shows that President Barack Obama remains popular and a majority of Americans continue to think he is honest and has managed the government effectively, while the tea party movement got a boost after being targeted by the IRS.

The survey was taken last week after the IRS, Benghazi and Associated Press controversies marked one of the worst weeks for the White House. It asked if Obama is a strong leader, with 58% saying he is, Continue reading

Anonymous Cincinnati IRS official: “Everything comes from the top.” | Mobile Washington Examiner

“We’re not political,’’ said one determinations staffer in khakis as he left work late Tuesday afternoon. “We people on the local level are doing what we are supposed to do. . . . That’s why there are so many people here who are flustered. Everything comes from the top. We don’t have any authority to make those decisions without someone signing off on them. There has to be a directive.” [emphasis original] Continue reading

Thoughts on President Obama’s comments today: 16.May.2013

A couple of CNN Breaking News emails highlighting and commenting on the interesting points:

CNN Breaking News, 11:46 AM 16.May.2013

to textbreakingne.
President Obama says he has “complete confidence in Eric Holder” and that “he is an outstanding Attorney General.”

Holder has been under fire because the Justice Department obtained phone records of The Associated Press from 2012 as part of an investigation of classified leaks.

The president also said today he isn’t apologizing for cracking down on leaks of classified information that can jeopardize U.S. troops and intelligence officers.

Obama called for consideration of a new “shield law” for the press. He added that he was unable to comment specifically on the Department of Justice’s secret subpoena of phone records of The Associated Press because of an ongoing investigation.

1) Holder has been under fire because the JD obtained phone records of AP journalists and reporter? What about Holder being under fire for the “Fast and Furious” ATF Continue reading
